Ok, I’ve just been trying to do a few things on this site with my Affiliate Link Commander Script and it’s an old version without my new “Grand” additions… So time for an upgrade… now how do I do that again… I did write it down, somewhere :)

If you are in my INL classes, don’t fret, this is a very old version I have on here – at the moment. It’ll all be shiny new  but I’ve found some more nice features I want to add before I unleash it upon you to Beta test and comment upon.

So I had best get to it! Stop yakking and get cracking!

Nope, I’m zapped. Just been adding some posts on SoKule and I can make them are appear on Twitter, that’s pretty neat. So off to bed to watch some good ole “Father Ted” and wind down for the night.

The Script

If you are at all interested in the script, it’s part of a larger project under development and you are welcome to join the waiting list… It’s at Ultracommander.com

Give help where help is needed!

Posted in Thought of the day by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 27 2009

I surf the traffic exchanges as a way to wind down some nights and I occassionally see “Broken Sites” or something that needs fixing.

So if I can find out who the site belongs too, I’ll shoot them off an email, explain what I think might be wrong and offer any help I may be able to give. I’m quite handy with websites, html, CSS, PHP Scripting and MySQL. In fact I teach it over on InternetNicheLab.

So if you ever receive an email from me offering help. I’m not out to Scam you. I hate seeing people having troubles if I think I   can offer a quick Fix to get yo uup and running I will.

It’s something I’ve been doing for years and how I earned my nickname of “ausome” from a bunch of markerters I helped out one time through one of Kiosk’s members Conference get togethers.

Just ask anyone! I’m not getting rich from doing it, but I’m hopefully getting people moving cause I know how frustrating it can be and if I’m lucky I get to  make a few friends on the way. Who knows what can happen from there. It aint all about the money!

Cheers

Tim

Buyer Beware on 2nd Hand Cars

Posted in Rip Offs by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 26 2009

We bought a 2nd hand Mitsubishi 380 from Cranbourne Holden Motors in Cranbourne, Victoria Australia in Nov 2008.

Just last week, we had a flat and my eldest put on the spare tyre to find it was the wrong size. So Wrong in fact that when he tried to move the car the wheel scrapped on the calipers on the disk brake which caused it to lock up and skid.

When we got the flat tyre repaired, we were informed that this is a common practice to throw any wheel in as a spare, if it’s going to fit the car or not.

On ringing Cranbourne Holden, I was informed that the law just required there to be “a wheel” as the spare and it not’s checked to see if it’s suitable or not. What do they have Roadworthy certificates again for?

What were the Signs?

Well it’s not surprising this has happened as it took us ages to get the “Log Books” which mysteriously got lost. We got new ones. The old ones had vanished! We never sited the roadworthy certificate which now, would appear that there was never one performed.

Their response.

So I’ve rung them regarding the “Incorrect Spare” issue to be told that my name is on their Database but it shows I’ve never purchased a car from them, ever. I’d have to find the salesmans name and then they could find it. Wonderful! None of the documentation I have has that information on it.

Although I must say that Jarrod and Michael where happy to help out and at least listen, although to be told that the car I had bought didn’t exist on their system and they could only track it down by the salesmans name is a bit dodgey. I gave the date. I’m sure they had so many people working there at the time it would take years to check it out.

In hindsight, yes we should have gone over everything and Insisted on the Log Books, Although we were told, don’t worry we’ll send them out. And we should have checked the Spare… The question remains, What else should we be checking.

The Moral: Be prepared to get the wool pulled over your eyes when buying a car. It’s a pity what people will do for a quick buck at the expense of any long term return. Guess who we wont be going back to…

[update] : My wife managed to get a new spare wheel and tyre for under $70 that is actually the correct size. I’m not sure how anyone would think a 15″ wheel was going to fit on a vehicle that takes 17″ wheels. But they did! Maybe it was the same guy that designed their database!

It’s all a classic example of a major “Rooster- pointing skywards”. Think about it!

Is Sokule the Marketers Twitter?

Posted in Thought of the day by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 25 2009

Someone had to come up with an affiliate based version of Twitter, and they have!

It’s just been launched in it’s Beta version so it has a “Few things” to get sorted out as yet, but it is quite useable.

I’ve just been playing on it and saying hi to a few folk already. A few pages are broken and I’m busting to take a look at the CSS for them, but my time’s a bit limited at the minute. They’ll get it sorted out!

So is SoKule really Kule (Cool or Kewl)?

Well I found it enjoyable and it’s certainly another way to meet other marketers, where I can hopefully share my skills with a few of them and JV on some upcoming projects. So for that reason I have found it to be Kule. I’m kind of a sucker in wanting to get involved in new projects , even when they are not my own, and help out. It’s what makes the world go around!

Anyway, I’d recommend you give it a shot. I’s only join up for Free for the time being to see where it goes, but because of who is behind it, It’ll get to where it’s , meant to go!

So become Kule like the rest of us and join Sokule and get networking….

All the best

OpenOffice – OOBase

Posted in Applications, Journal by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 24 2009

At the last PHP Class I held, it was suggested that I develop some of the databases we’ll be using to organize our businesses on OpenOffice Base. Which is the Database Application of OpenOffice (I only use OpenOffice).

There is a great amount of info on getting up and running with this application and I did get as far as hooking together all my relational tables to generate the correct queries. So for those of you that attend my classes, Yes I gave it a go.

There are some little differences ( as expected ) between the SQL, it wants to generate as opposed to MYSQL which I’m more familiar with. I Never really got too deep into using Microsoft’s Access only because I didn’t have a real understanding of proper Database Design at the time.

Time has fixed that. I’m at home with MySQL and Stored procedures. Not everyones cup of tea but I enjoy creating useful, safe applications with it. The only problem is with the Data Sensitive stuff is you really don’t want up on a Website. There are various ways to make a Desktop application ( NOT Windows only based…) that works on all platforms and OpenOffice is a quick and easy and FREE way to do just that.

Anyway, I’ve got somewhere, rather quickly with it and it’s probably a very good platform for explaining the correct way to design a Database. I was impressed.

Now I’ve just got to get a handle on the interface ( forms ) and interacting correctly with the tables and enforce proper data entry rules across tables. Should be a fun excercise.

So while I’m in Hospital this Saturday (my time) getting my Infususion, hopefully the wireless connection will hold up and I can demonstrate database basics a lot more clearly. Got to love Desktop sharing conference calls.

VOIP is the way of the future.

Posted in Thought of the day by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 23 2009

Voip (Voice Over internet Protocol) has been around for many years now. But the quality used to suffer somewhat in the early days and the you were restricted to being connected to the internet to use it.

Now you can call on any landline or cell/mobile phone. You can register the numbers so when you call in the system will just ask you for the number you want to call, or you enter in your customer number then the number you want to call.

Now I just rang a mate from my landline in Melbourne, Australia to a cell phone in New England, USA.
54 minutes of chat time cost $1,17 USD and the quality was supurb.

It’s prepaid and NEVER expires. So you can use it when ever you need to.

The Best VOIP available worldwide is here

Global Virtual Opportunities Coming Soon!

Posted in Thought of the day by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 21 2009

Go With GVO

Well “Soon” as in Soon and I for one am looking forward to Kiosks Change over to GVO with all that has been promised. Joel Therien has certainly done his homework and from what I gather, all of the services Kiosk currently provide separately are going to be bundled to some degree. Not quite sure just how that’s going to work.

At the moment – you do get a free – 3 Seat – Hotconference Room with your Titanium Reseller Hositng Account. And there is “That” Autoresponder that’s also provided.

I’ve not yet seen the latest Autoresponder Service that’s going to part of the system. The old (current) one, in my opinion sucks compared to the likes of Aweber’s and GetResponse’s Services. I sure hope it’s improved.

Now I’ve been using Kiosk for quite a number of years. In fact since my Hosting debarkle some time back, I’ve only really been with Kiosk

The reason was, I stumbled across them once or twice before, but I eventually folded and took up the $1 deal – I mean $1 is cheap hosting for 30 days :)

Anyway – I got hooked into their online conference calls, made lots of friends, discovered my talent for working out hard stuff – PHP etc and helped out where I could. I also learned alot from the folk there. It was and still is a very welcoming community helping out anyone at any level. Anyway that’s what hooked me and since then – I’ve had my fair share of issues with this and that, but because I get to deal ( as does everyone ) with real customer support people – things get done quick smart – any time of the day. Kiosk ( GVO ) are in Texas, USA and I’m over ( or under ) in Australia. So the time difference isn’t too bad.

If it’s real bad I can talk direct to the folk on the floor live online via their own conferencing program. Which again has been a boon to letting me branch out and hold classes and meetings when and where I liked when I thought there was no way I could ever afford one of those fancy conference room things.

I got 5 of them :)

I’m Getting ready to Promote GVO

Ok so I’ve sat down here in the evening, watched Joel and Mikes Blog Video on the latest news of whats coming up… Got to thinking and so I went “a domain hunting”. Now the primary site for GVO is now GoGVO.com. Catchy I guess. Fortunately I’ve been doing a lot of Domain name creating over the years and so thought Hmm wonder if GowithGVO.com is taken. ( “Gee you get to learn so much over time Tim. Wow, Sticking the word ‘With’ in between, simply brilliant” , I hear you thinking! — [I do have sarcastic friends!] )

So I’ve grabbed it. Knocked up a quick site (on my Kiosk Hosting cause I have bucket loads) using wordpress and just got to get a little issue regarding billing sorted out with my Autorrsponder service GetResponse, and I’ll start getting my forms back online.

You work it out just based on the hosting alone. If you’ve got more than say 5 websites on monthly plans then it starts adding up. I’m not going to say that $44.95 USD per month for what I’m getting now isn’t pricey. Yes, it’s loaded a bit to help pay out the affiliate commissions, There is cheaper hosting about, no question about that, but not to this level of support and I must say flexibility if it’s achievable. But there is also much more expensive about with much much less features. I know, I’ve looked.

Anyway, I can happily host anyones website and be able to sleep at night. Which is something I should try to do right now, so I’ll mark this off the list and keep track of the traffic to the new wonder site using my own custom tracking software (still in beta).

Nighty night

Tim

We are on the way

Posted in Thought of the day by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 20 2009

Hi again, well I’ve just spent the last two hours going over and converting all the links from Textpatterns abstractness into real HTML links ( the ones I love to play with ).

All seems well. I’ve been giving my Affiliate Link Commander Script a real good bashing converting over all my links so I can track them, which I rather like. Plus if for any reason something changes with the links, I just change them in the one spot and “Hey Presto” every location it’s been used on the website gets updated automatically. Now that’s what I love!

Now I can tick off the “Convert TimBrownlaw.com to WordPress” item off my ToDo list. Next is to get a blog setup on another website to start getting it indexed on the search engines and then come back and get the newsletter hapening.

I’ve been a avid buyer of John’s previous products and his area of expertise is to do with informational products and the selling of them on Ebay.

Now John is showing the world how to create their very own product.

Including how to find a subject that you can create a product about and how to setup the sales page. He does this through a demonstration, where he’s found some old and dusty ebook on a subject he knows about, with an existing sales page with full Private Label Rights. So that means anyone can take it and make it their own. John shows you how.

The nasty part: This is always the part that leaves me in a big heap and I’m guessing it would do the same to you as well and it’s very common in any course. The “let down” is only due to the fact that the actual “product creation” part cannot be taught by anyone. Not without getting someone to show you by actually doing it. No one can teach Inspiration, they can only give encouragement and in this world of “show me how” , something as major as this could make you feel ripped off. If it does – DO NOT BUY this product. In fact, Don’t buy any course, because, at the end of the day there is always a huge part required that involves you doing some work. ( gosh seems I’m on my high horse on this point  – it’s been festering for sometime now ).

Sales Page Techniques.

John takes you through the whole process on how take an existing sales page and get the graphics souped up, fix up the wording and layout. There is a list he goes through that it takes to make up a successful sales page.

How you can get affiliates to sell your products.

This is the part that caught my eye. How do you get setup so you can get your own affiliate salesforce to promote and sell your product. John explains this in great detail.

So how do you get it?

You can go and visit Johns Website here

Remember though, if you are not 100% prepared to put teh required work into this, then seriously don’t bother looking at it. You are not going to study the course – go aha – click a few buttons and run off to order your new Ferrari! That only happens in movies and in other activities that aint legal.

Hello WordPress!

Posted in Journal, Notes to myself by Tim Brownlaw - Aug 20 2009

Ahh it feels good!. It’s finally come around on my big list of things to do, to get this website transferred over from Textpattern to WordPress.

I’ve been doing quite a few installs now on various sites for myself and others of late. There is still lots to learn. I’m now in a comfy position where I can get very “experimental” with wordpress and mold it to do my bidding. Now I just got to get the design “thought” processes flowing….

There may be some links about on the site that are still in the “Textile” format used in Textpattern. The next task is to fix those up. So off I go to do that.

In the meantime, I’ve come across a number of very good products which may help you. Of course it depends on what it is you want to do. The problem is, there are too many “ways to go” which causes many people, including myself, to check them all out but never get time to properly implement any of them. I believe the term is Not Having “Focus”. We need to get the blinkers out, focus on something and go for it with avengence! Then go onto the next thing….

Anyway, for now, my next thing is to get this site tidied up and add in a few more things I need to have on here… So till next post. Take care and have fun

Tim
